Moving in Stasis

Design Academy Eindhoven presents Moving in Stasis. This unfolding exhibition and public programme revisits and recasts the academy’s master’s graduation projects from 2020. These projects have been in storage for six months, awaiting their moment of display. In collaboration with Het Nieuwe Instituut, 60 works have now been transplanted to Gallery 3 By You.

Moving in Stasis is an exhibition of its own making. Constructed as an evolving set piece and culminating in a digital public programme, participants will occupy a hybrid structure over five weeks, formed in three acts: installation, production and public programme. Entirely curated, designed and developed by the graduates themselves, the exhibition disentangles and re-stages performance, film screenings, objects, writings, radio broadcasts and more. With topics ranging from narratology to modalities of care, and craft choreographies to invisible architectures, viewers and visitors are granted a behind-the-scenes insight into the working processes of 60 designers.

Gallery 3 By You

Gallery 3 By You is Het Nieuwe Instituut’s initiative to make museum presentation space available to makers from the field. The exhibition spaces in Gallery 3 (on the top floor of the museum building) are open to projects - whether an academy graduation show, an installation around an urban event, a presentation by a professional association, or work by young Rotterdam makers. The creators arrange the set-up and disassembly themselves, take care of attracting visitors and carry the costs of the presentation. In return, Het Nieuwe Instituut makes space available and provides support in producing the presentation and communicating it.
